COLUMBUS, Miss. (WCBI) – A new entertainment venue is one step closer to reality in Columbus.

Tourism leaders and City officials broke ground Wednesday on the Senator Terry Brown Amphitheater.

The 3,500 seat venue is the latest phase in a planned expansion of the Columbus Riverwalk. It will be on The Island just across the newly renovated “Old River Bridge”.

The Amphitheater is expected to be a tourism draw, and a tribute to Terry Brown’s legacy of economic development.

” Representative Brown, along with other local legislators in the Golden Triangle area, we all know were responsible for numerous economic projects that have come to Lowndes County and to the City of Columbus. There is no better way to show our appreciation to Senator Brown.”

The project is expected to cost 3 million dollars. The legislature has already approved 2 .2 million in funding.
