LOWNDES COUNTY, Miss. (WCBI) — The world around us is getting smaller and more connected.

The Golden Triangle Regional Airport is looking to give people and businesses more options to travel around the world.

GTR is currently looking at options to bring a second airliner to the area.

Michael Boyd, who consults airliners, says although airline growth isn’t increasing, GTR provides an advantage because of the area’s growing international presence.

“The airline industry isn’t growing but even with air service that’s here, which is good, you’ve attracted business from Japan, from Russia, from Israel, from France, you’re doing pretty good, and that’s because you’re using the airport as an economic development point,” Boyd said.

Boyd also says the airline industry is moving away from scheduled passenger flights and more toward economic development areas.
