GUNTOWN, MISS. (WCBI) -Students at one middle school in our area are taking their study of the most famous Founding Father and creating a living history lesson.
As WCBI’s Allie Martin reports, the interactive lesson allows the students to learn some interesting facts about the famous general and the nation’s
first president.

For three months, Gifted students at Guntown Middle School have learned a lot about the leader of the Revolutionary Army and the man who became the
country’s first president.

Now, they ‘re re enacting key parts of Washington’s life, and death. This walk through drama includes seven scenes from the Founding Father’s
life.

“We’re going to start off with George Washington the spymaster, then move on to one of the most important scenes, Washington crossing the Delaware,” said Teacher Angela Doty.

There is also a scene about Washington’s teeth, which were not made of wood. Teacher Angela Doty came up with the idea of a walk through drama after she
spent some time this past summer at Mount Vernon for the George Washington Teacher Institute.

“While there they brought in speakers from all across the country, one session was on story telling and drama in your classroom,” she said.

For the past month or so, students have rehearsed their parts and they say this drama has helped them better understand the man who shaped the nation.

“He was the first president and has a very important role in our freedom,” said Carter Grubbs, who portrays “DeathbedGeorge Washington.”

“He was not only our president, he was a great leader and without him, we wouldn’t probably be here with all these freedoms.,” said Oscar Fadila, who was a pallbearer.

Doty wants her students to not only know facts about President Washington, but also to have a deeper appreciation of the sacrifices he, and so many
others made .

The walk through drama takes place Tuesday night Nov. 10 at 6 at Guntown Middle School.
