STARKVILLE, Miss. (WCBI) — A Starkville family has a new outlook on life as they open the door to a brand new home.

Allison Lindsey and her family are celebrating.

They’re ready to move into a new three-bedroom home built by Habitat for Humanity.

“It’s life changing. My life has changed,” said Allison Lindsey, the new homeowner.

Habitat builds around three houses in the Starkville area each year. Lindsey was selected from a large group of applicants to receive the house.

“Its always a joy of mine to be able to see someone whose never owned a home be able to move into that house and claim it for their own, be able to bring their children up in that home. Its a wonderful feeling,” said Allen Tucker, the local Habitat For Humanity president.

First United Methodist Church in Starkville partnered with Habitat and raised money to provide all the supplies and materials for the house.

“It’s in our community. We do so many things all around the world. We have young people in Chicago this week doing a mission trip, we have young people in our church who are off in Peru and other parts of the country but we want to do some things that help people in our community because these are our neighbors,” said Giles Lindley, pastor of FUMC.

Lindsey says her family’s new place to call home also represents a new life for the trio.

“When they came and poured my foundation I decided to get out and when I came up and stepped on it, it was a hard, solid foundation. And that was the foundation of me and my kid’s life. The solid security we are going to have,” Lindsey said.

In addition to volunteers from the local community, students also came from all over the country to help with building efforts.

“The experience was tremendous. Working with the students that came in from Chicago, all different kinds of people from the community came out and helped and put in the hours. Oh it was very touching. I enjoyed it,” Lindsey said.

Lindsey plans to start moving in as soon as possible.

Habitat For Humanity plans to finish building on a house next door to Lindsey’s and begin construction on a new house in the fall.
