TUPELO, Miss. (WCBI) — Just in time for the holidays, a Lee County family is moving into their new home thanks to Habitat for Humanity.

The Northeast Mississippi Habitat for Humanity celebrated construction of its 4th home this year in Tupelo. Chiquita Bobo and her son received the keys just in time for Christmas.

“She has a big personality. She has a love for life and a love for this community. She had a lot volunteers working on this home including Home Stretch Furniture which sponsored the house. I’m just really excited for her and her son to be put here today,” says Michelle Shepherd, Executive Director of the Northeast Mississippi Habitat for Humanity.

Bobo started the home buying program in 2011. Since then she’s waited patiently, helping others in the program to build their dream homes.

“They started building on the house in August of this year and we just got it completed. In the meantime, we had to volunteer on other homes and I just had to wait my turn in regards to it,” says Bobo.

The dedication ceremony including prayer and a song by Bobo and her friends. She also got some advice from a Habitat homeowner Glinda Vance who just paid her home mortgage in full. Vance says she’s learned a lot over the years.

“There are things she just won’t know and she’s just going to have to call and ask people what to do about it because if you’ve been renting all your life, you won’t know what to do with somethings.

The Northeast Mississippi Habitat for Humanity has built over a hundred homes in the last 20 years.
