Video: Hatley Teen Falls to Rare Immune Disease

HATLEY, Miss. (WCBI) — A teenage girl whose months-long battle with an incurable disease inspired a school and a community has died.

15-year-old Hatley High School sophomore Serra Pearson died this morning.

Pearson was diagnosed in February with a rare immune disease. After treatment during the summer, she returned home to spend the fall with her family and friends. That included a trip to Disney World in Florida thanks to the Make a Wish Foundation.

Visitation is 4 – 8 p.m. Friday and 11 a.m. – 1 p.m. Saturday at the New Creation Fellowship on Phillips Schoolhouse Road in Amory with the funeral to follow at 1 p.m.
