Video: Houston High Solar Car Team Competes in Australia

HOUSTON, Miss. (WCBI) — Houston High School’s solar car team is celebrating some big accomplishments.

The team recently returned from a three-week trip to Australia, where they competed in the World Solar Challenge.

The group had already won 14 U.S. championships

The students say they may come from a smaller school compared to their competitors across the globe, but they still did well.

“It is very fun,” said Hunter Moore, an 11th grader. “We’re just a little high school and you know we’re out there competing with all the universities and stuff, and placed third in the adventure class, which is our class, and placed somewhere about 23rd out of the 46 teams overall.”

The students say they hope to compete in the race again in two years.
