HOUSTON, Miss. (WCBI) -Houston’s proposal to generate additional revenue through a restaurant and hotel tax is dead for this year.
A 3 to 2 vote among aldermen for a 2% tax on hotel rooms and restaurant meals  isn’t enough to get the Legislature to act.Legislators say they want unanimous support from local boards before pushing such measures. Today is the deadline to get the bill filed.

Supporters say the tax would generate about $20,000.00 a year for parks and economic development. It also would free up revenue for services like paving and drainage.
