HOUSTON, Miss.(WCBI)-The Houston Solar Race Team is back at home in Houston after their 13th win at the Winston Solar Challenge road race from Texas to Los Angeles California. Already they are looking toward 2014 and another national championship title. Back on home turf in Houston, the Sundancer Solar team members Thursday morning were discussing their recent win. For them the victory was lucky 13, and going into the race there was confidence. They believed they could repeat what they have been doing since 2001.

“I never want to say that we’re gonna win, but I know we have an amazing car and amazing team. So I knew our chances were pretty good,” said Kristen Marsh, Sundancer Race Team Member.

When asked the reason behind their repeated victories, Sundancer Captain Kristen Black is quick to point to fund raising and their many sponsors. Of course experience and having a good vehicle gives them a notch that keeps them rolling pass the competition.

“We put in way more work before we left Houston than most of the other teams. Some of the other teams had talked about they hadn’t driven their car a mile yet and the car we have has had so many miles put on it,” said Kristen Black, Sundancer Team Captain.

“We hope that we’ll have the same luck in 2014 as we have so far,” said Charlsi Allen, Sundancer Race Team Member. With the latest win under their belt, and the trophy to prove it, solar car race team members are feeling a lot of differing emotions. Among them are relief…..and pressure, to do it one more time.

“I think we, we can pull it off. We do it every year. We know what we’re doing,” said Marsh.

“I defiantly want number 14. That’ll be my senior year and my last year. It just wouldn’t be right if we didn’t go out with a bang,” added Black.

This year the team covered more miles than any team in any division and even got a chance to give some younger team members some valuable experience for the future.
