Video: Houston Voters Head to the Polls in August to Decide Tourism Tax

HOUSTON, Miss. (WCBI) -August 11th is the day Houston voters will decide on a tourism tax.

The 1%  levy would apply to restaurants and hotels.

City leaders aren’t sure how much money the tax would generate, but 75 % would go to economic development and 25% for parks and recreation.

A 60% majority is needed for the measure to pass.

If approved, the new tax would start September 1st and remain for three years, before residents would vote again.
