Video: Humane Society Wants Tougher Laws Against Animal Cruelty In Mississippi

TUPELO, Miss. (WCBI) – The Humane Society wants to toughen laws against animal cruelty in Mississippi.
So Thursday night it held a forum at the Tupelo Bark Park to find out how state representative and senate candidates stand on the issue. Summer Knight is on the Mississippi State Council of the Humane Society and is a animal cruelty investigator in Tupelo.
“We have a very large problem in our area,” she says. They’re dog fighting rings, cock fighting rings, puppy mills a lot of abuse and neglect that we just need stronger laws to be able to help these animals in need, ” Knight stresses.
Knight says this is an election year and they want make first offense aggravated to be a felony rather than a misdemeanor like it is now. She says during an election year the Humane Society wants to know what candidates will do to take care of animals if they are elected.
