ITAWAMBA COUNTY, Miss. (WCBI) — Itawamba and Northeast Community Colleges sign an agreement to provide courses to the Toyota Wellspring Center.

Funded by a 50 million dollar Toyota gift, the goal of the Wellspring center is to offer high school seniors in Lee, Pontotoc and Union counties enhanced educational opportunities.

Today’s memorandum of understanding explains how the colleges will offer the opportunities.

Educators say this gives students insight into future careers.

“Itawamba will be offering the robotics course. And those students will be coming in for four consecutive friday’s to experience how it will be if you are in the manufacturing or robotics area there. So I think its a wonderful concept,” ICC President Mike Eaton said.

“There are so many options for students today, and you’ve experienced that, and the question is in all of their minds, ‘What do I want to do with my life?’ Sadly, there aren’t that many good ways to help them get career information about anything other than things that already exist. And so this is exploratory, about careers that are coming,” NEMCC President Johnny Allen said.

Northeast will offer courses in the healthcare and ICC will offer courses in manufacturing and robotics.
