STARKVILLE, Miss. (WCBI) — Some improvements are coming to a major roadway in Starkville.

Northern District Transportation Commissioner Mike Tagert, Mississippi State University President Dr. Mark Keenum, and Starkville Mayor Parker Wiseman made an official pledge Thursday afternoon that they’d commit to improving Highway 12 in Starkville.

MSU – along with dozens of restaurants and businesses – sit along the highway.

And for that reason, officials say the changes will make it more pedestrian friendly.

“We are trying to make sure we continue to allow the movement of freight, but also look at the differences in the improvement we can make for pedestrian access, mobility, make sure to do it in a way that’s compliant with our citizens that have disabilities as well,” Tagert said.

Tagert says construction will start this winter, and finish by mid-summer.
