MAYHEW, Miss. (WCBI) – Making the transition to high school can be tough, but one group of incoming freshmen is taking that challenge one step further.

They’re actually starting a whole new school. The inaugural class of the Early College High School met Monday night at East Mississippi Community College’s Mayhew campus to get to know each other and the faculty.

The school, which allows students to earn an associates degree while working on high school credit is the first of its kind in Mississippi, and both students and teachers are excited about the new challenges and opportunities.

“I would like to study music. I like to sing a lot, so I would like to sing when I get older. Or I would like to produce music.”

Classes begin August 10th
