BRUCE, Miss. (WCBI) – One man is dead and two suspects in are custody.

The investigation continues in Calhoun County.

Bruce Bait Shop is where the body of 31-year-old James Pratt was found early Thursday morning.

“About 12:30 am Bruce Police department was out on patrol, they went by Bruce Bait Shop there in the city limits and saw a truck parked there and it caught his eye. It had been running with the lights on and he pulled in to check on it. And once he approached the vehicle, he found a male leaned over in the vehicle non-responsive,” said Calhoun County Sheriff Greg Pollan.

Pratt, a Chocktaw County native, was in this truck and suffered multiple gun shots.

He was dead at the scene.

Investigators obtained surveillance video, which helped them identify 17-year-old Breanna Westmoreland and 21-year-old JaShon Coleman as the suspects.

The two are now charged with capital murder.
Coleman also faces charges of possession of a stolen firearm and armed robbery.
“We were able to obtain surveillance video from the convenient store and the victim’s place of employment there in Bruce. One of the persons of interest was a co-worker of his,” said Pollan.

This is the first murder of the year in Calhoun County. Residents say in a small town it makes them feel uneasy.

“Make you feel like you need to be more alert and watch, it’s happening everywhere. You can’t just say it’s in a small town like Bruce, it can happen anywhere,” said Bruce resident Cleo Harris.

Bonds have not been set yet, the investigation continues.
