COLUMBUS, Miss. (WCBI) — Some North Mississippi elementary schoolers are blessing local families with some special baskets.

Both Pre-K and kindergarten students at Annunciation Catholic School made dozens of “blessing baskets” for ICU patients at Baptist Memorial Hospital-Golden Triangle.

They collected everything from chips and granola bars, to Chapstick and hand sanitizer.

The kids also wrote cards and prayers for the patients.

Teachers say the baskets help families who may need essential items, and can’t leave the hospital.

“We live in a global community, and that we’ve got to do everything we can to help the less fortunate, to help the people that are sick, the people that are hungry, the people that are poor, and that God calls on us to do those things,” said Heather Ford, kindergarten teacher.

“We’re making the world a better place by helping people at the hospital,” said Anna Kinsley Cline, kindergarten student.

Ford says this is the third year the students have made the baskets.
