TUPELO, Miss. (WCBI) — The Natchez Trace provided a way for children to unmask the secrets of furry animals, Saturday.

Children participating in the Junior Rangers program took part in a Mammal Masquerade at the Visitors Center.

A park guide showed the children skins from actual mammals that live along the Natchez Trace.

They got to feel the fur and learn the distinctive features of each animal. The Trace purchased the skins and stuffed animals so it can educate people about their fellow mammals they often can’t see while driving down the parkway.

The Junior Rangers program allows children to earn points toward being certified as a Junior Ranger by attending and participating in events like this.
