TUPELO, Miss. (WCBI) – The 2015 Susan G. Komen Race For the Cure grants were awarded at the North Mississippi Medical Center on Tuesday.

The grants totaled $150,000 and were given to ten non-profit organizations around the area.

75% of the proceeds will provide medically under served women in North Mississippi access to health care and breast cancer treatment.

The remaining 25% will be used by Susan G. Komen for the Cure to fund breast cancer research.

Nancy Kidd says she is very appreciative of what the Komen foundation has done for women around the area.

“So if you don’t have insurance, and you need to have a mammogram, if you have a family history of breast cancer this is a great opportunity to come in and be screened,” said Nancy Kidd, with Baptist Memorial Hospital.

Komen North Mississippi serves a 16 county area. Since the North Mississippi Race began in 1998, the organization has granted $2.1 million locally and more than $680,000  for research.
