TUPELO,  Miss. (WCBI) – The end is in sight for one of the most-anticipated road projects in the 20-year history of Tupelo’s major thoroughfare plan. Work is almost finished on a new bridge for what is known as the northern loop to cross the Natchez Trace Parkway. In fact, traffic signals already are in place where what officially is known as West Barnes Cross Road meets Mount Vernon Road. That stretch of the new road linking North Gloster with the Barnes Crossing retail area could come within two weeks. Meanwhile, a bridge crossing Highway 78 should be completed in September. That will give drivers from west Tupelo and northwest Lee County quick access to the city’s largest retail center just in time for the Christmas shopping season.
