VERONA, Miss. (WCBI) – More than 300 third grade students learned about farming and agriculture during a hands on field trip. The third graders from Saltillo spent most of their day at the Lee County Ag Center on an educational outing where they were able to pick cotton, learn about animals and farm tools, and also have fun at a huge play area.

It’s all part of an effort by the schools and the Ag Center to educate students about the role farmers play in bringing food to the table.

“There’s a big push now for farm to table and I think it’s with the younger generation being a little more removed from the farming generation and maybe our grandparents ”

“I went to see the cows, pigs a big cow, and I got to pick cotton and the funnest part is going to be you getting on the slide.”

And indeed there is a big slide, that kids and grownups can play on.This is the second year the Lee County Ag Center has hosted the hands on field trips for students.
