Video: Life Umbrella Ministry Is Helping Columbus Women Get Back On Their Feet
COLUMBUS, Miss. (WCBI)-A Columbus woman is making it her life mission to help women overcome addictions, abuse and financial difficulty.
This Columbus ministry is providing an umbrella of protection that’s changing lives.
Three years ago, Dorothy Walker found herself trapped in her own circumstances.
“Most of it was abuse. Locked down just like you are some kind of animal or something. You want to go but you just cant get out of there,” says Dorothy Walker.
When all hope seemed lost, Dorothy heard a knock at her door.
One that would change her life forever.
Kim Patton was going door to door handing out free hygiene products for women in need, for her ministry.
Dorothy remembers exactly what Kim said the day she became free.
“You don’t have to go through it. You don’T have to go through nothing. It all depends on if you want to. It’s a beautiful life out there and I see it. Makes me so happy. I am happy because it’s been a long time since I smiled like this,” says Walker.
Patton started Life Umbrella last April after a car accident, that almost took her life.
“It was a prompting from God and he instructed me that I needed to go out and help them which is possible for them in every way possible,” says Patton.
As Patton travels the low-income areas of Columbus, she sees women struggling with abuse, addiction and depression.
“They are really dealing with situation and circumstances and these are basically women that are living in the projects or just out here on the streets,” says Patton.
Patton wants women to know there is hope.
“If you are going through something don’t think you are alone. There is some support out here. I am out here and if you need me I’m available,” says Patton.
