STARKVILLE, Miss (WCBI) – The Mississippi Association of Supervisors met in Starkville Tuesday(11-27) morning to discuss infrastructure funding deficits that could lead to public safety hazards. Supervisors from 7 Northeast Mississippi counties gathered to discuss the Local System Bridge Program. The program has a $20 million dollar deficit and there is concern for public safety if local bridges are not repaired. Steve Gray of the Mississippi Association of Supervisors says it’s important that funding for this program be addressed sooner than later. “Public safety is becoming an issue regarding infrastructure in addition to economic development. We got about 2500 deficient bridges across the state. There’s an issue with respect to how we continue to improve our infrastructure regarding the fuel tax. There are some things that need to be done to help our state move forward and we’re hoping to get that addressed this legislative session,” says Gray. The counties represented at the meeting included Clay, Lowndes, Oktibbeha and Noxubee counties.
