Video: Local Entrepreneaurs Head to “All Things Money” Conference

MAYHEW, Miss. (WCBI)-Small Businesses make up 97 percent of exporters in Mississippi. That’s why it’s important for entrepreneurs to have all the tools they need to succeed. WCBI Heather Black spent her  Wednesday (1-30-13) in Mayhew, with small business owners who are looking to improve their bottom lines.

The name of the conference is “All Things Money.” It’s goal… to help entrepreneurs work hand in hand with bankers, loan officers, and accountants to grow their businesses.

There are over 15 vendors on display to offer assistance to small business owners and entrepreneurs while building relationships for the future.

“And also a great networking opportunity there are other entrepreneurs and small business here and sometimes people that you might think are your competitions could be allies,” says Blake Wilson.

Blake Wilson, the President and CEO of the Mississippi Economic Council told the stories of people who started with small ideas that grew into multi-million dollar businesses…all from Mississippi.

“We are a state of small businesses that is our base. We need the PACCAR, Severstal, we need those big drivers to become good customers for small businesses,” says Wilson.

Jennifer Morris is in the process of starting a boutique in Starkville. She came to the conference as an investment in her future.

“I don’t want to start to fail and so I am here today to learn the tools that’s needed to have a successful business,” says Jennifer Morris.

Olen Yoder manages four different enterprises. He’s in everything from portable storage units to meat sales. Olen has 10 years in business, under his belt, but he knows he still has plenty to learn.

“One thing we always struggle with is employment how do we offer benefits to our employees and also taxes. I’m certain entrepreneur I enjoy business, but these are always questions I have,” says Olen Yoder.

Wilson offers advice to those who are looking to become the small business owners of tomorrow.

“Have the courage to pursue your dreams, but have the focus to keep the main thing the main thing as Jimm Barksdale would say,” says Wilson.

East Mississippi Community Collge in Mayhew hosted the event.
