TUPELO, MISS. (WCBI) – Summertime means it’s recruitment time for school districts across Northeast Mississippi.

Late last month,  Lee County school board members recognized  educators who were retiring.

The district must fill those positions with qualified applicants and administrators at the central office are always recruiting teaching candidates.

Administrators visit all of the major universities and talk with graduating seniors, as well as keeping a pool of candidates for positions that could come open.

“We also talk to our high school seniors , and work them as they are going into college, we are very fortunate in Lee County to always have great applicants, in fact, it makes our job very hard at times, because we do have great applicants that come to us,” said Leigh Anne Newton, director of student services for Lee County Schools.

Newton says many applicants use the district’s new online portal,  while others drop their resumes off in person at the main office.
