COLUMBUS, Miss. (WCBI) – Images of that massive tornado that churned through Moore, Oklahoma have made their way around the world.

At last count, the storm claimed 24 lives including 9 children.

The tornado did so much damage to homes and businesses, it’s impossible to put a dollar value on the destruction.

Moore is a suburb of Oklahoma City.

Mississippi chapters of the American Red Cross are ready to pitch in, anyway that they can.

Former WCBI Sports Director Derek Cody still has family in that area, thankfully they are all okay.

Derek says,  “It’s total devastation. You know, I look at the aerial images. I don’t recognize any of the parts of Moore, and you know, I know that area well. It’s gone, that’s really the only way that you can describe it.”

Mississippi chapters of the American Red Cross are ready to pitch in, anyway that they can.

Perneatha Evans of the Northeast Mississippi Chapter of the American Red Cross says, “We have sent nearly 30 emergency response vehicles, we have opened up shelters, we are handing out meals, snacks, providing emotional support, and any type of need, we see that the community is in need of right now.”

The Northeast Mississippi Chapter of the American Red Cross plans to lend even more assistance to Oklahoma after the severe weather threat ends here.
