Video: Longtime Lowndes County Lawman Retires

COLUMBUS, Miss. (WCBI) — The Lowndes County Sheriff’s Department loses another employee to retirement today. Bobby Grimes career has spanned more than three decades with state and Golden Triangle law enforcement agencies. A reception was held for the narcotics unit commander this afternoon.

Grimes believes drugs come in cycles and now heroine is making a come back in the state.

He says addiction must be treated as strongly drug enforcement, which could help families that deal with abuse.

“What really bothers me more than anything on all these investigations is when you go in these homes and you see the neglect and abuse of these kids; of the parents that are addicted to drugs and how they neglect them or abuse them, either physically or sexually.”

Grimes will be interviewed for the Starkville police chief position.

Archie Williams will now be commander of the Lowndes County Sheriff’s Department’s narcotics unit.
