LOUISVILLE, Miss. (WCBI) — Students of the Winston County School District are engaged in stiff competition at Eiland Middle School.

Under the watchful eye of their peers, visiting parents, and educators, these elementary school students are awarded well deserved ribbons and certificates of honor. After choosing a fiction or non fiction book, they did research and are making impressive presentations before the judges.

“We had about 20 judges to judge the boards. So we chose the first place winners that will go on to the regional,” said Penny Hill, WCSD Director of Curriculum.

Before they go against other students across the state, they have their chests stuck out challenging every student in a six school district area, to be the best that they can academically.

In that type of setting, the students can not help but move high up the academic ladder of success.

“You know it just a great process to go through. They learn a lot having to present, Having to be questioned by judges. It just promotes reading, it promotes literacy in our district. And we’re just so proud of them,” said Penny Hill.

The regional reading fair competition is being held in Jackson at Mississippi School for The Deaf on March 6th.

The six school district participating in the reading fair includes: Fair Elementary School, Louisville Elementary, Eiland Middle School, Louisville High School, Nanih Waiya Attendance Center, and Noxapater Attendance Center.
