LOUISVILLE, Miss. (WCBI) — After more than 6 months a Louisville family left homeless by he April 28th Tornado is moving back into their newly renovated home.

Friday is moving day for residents of the Piney Wood Street home who were displaced by an April tornado. After a brief prayer a welcome home committee of volunteers are on hand to greet Lucy Foster. Back in her newly renovated home just in time for the holidays.

“You know she is just overwhelmed with joy and she has been so grateful and just so appreciative. And she is just almost can’t put into words, how much it means for her to get back into her home in time for Thanksgiving and with Christmas just around the corner,” said Mellie Jordan/Winston Strong Case Worker.

“We came in and did remodeling work on the infrastructure to try to get it back into livable conditions. We utilized the resources that we had available in order to do that,” said Billy Metts, Construction Coordinator.

Just looking at the renovated structure one would never imagine, the Foster home sustained heavy damages when the deadly E-F4 tornado hit. The family used FEMA Funds to pay for a new roof and other minor repairs.

“It was a total, should have been a total loss. But through by the help of God and the ingenuity of the men that we had working with us we were able to restore it,” said Billy Metts.

As Foster’s keys to her newly repaired home are returned to her, Foster is thankful to the people who are key. Without their help… she would still be living with relatives and not in her own home.

“And we are so excited and so thrilled that with the help of volunteers and donated money from UMCOR and Winston Strong that we’ve been able to get her furniture and building materials,” said Mellie Jordan.

Foster shares her home with three disabled sons. Her spouse is a patient in the Winston Medical Center Nursing Home.
