LOWNDES COUNTY, Miss. (WCBI) — Lowndes County one day could have a showplace arena for everything from 4H exhibitions and county fairs to major cattle and horse shows.

State and local leaders are developing a plan to build an agricenter, possibly on 50 county-owned acres west of Paccar.

The site would be central to Lowndes, Clay and Oktibbeha counties.

Lowndes officials say active 4H programs and local horse and cattle enthusiasts would be an anchor.

Houston, Pontotoc and Louisville have small ag centers that have been successful.

Lowndes officials say they will try to learn lessons from the financially troubled Lee County ag center.

Funding for the Lowndes facility would come ftom state grants and interest from the county’s $30 million hospital sale trust fund.
