LOWNDES COUNTY, Miss. (WCBI) – After hauling and buying water for about a year and half, residents in a Lowndes County community finally have water flowing from the faucet again. The 75 people who live in the Nashville Ferry Road area did not have running water for 18 months after their wells dried up. Other neighbors in the area complained of discolored water and poor taste. Supervisors got a grant from rural development and partnered with the East Lowndes Water Association to construct the new water lines and provide service. District 4 Supervisor Jeff Smith says it’s not too late for residents to sign up for the program.

“Ninety percent of the people are on services that registered. We are taking people as we speak until the end of this month. People will be allowed to opt into the program that did not opt into the program initially,” says Smith.

Smith says this is only the first step in improving the quality of life for Lowndes County residents in that area.
