LOWNDES COUNTY, Miss. (WCBI) — Lowndes County investigators made their rounds today checking up on registered sex offenders.

Investigator Tony Cooper said investigators alongside US marshals did their routine checkups on the 85 convicted sex offenders in Lowndes County.

Convicted sex offenders are required by law to register the address where they are living at any given time.

If a registered sex offender is not in compliance with state statute, he or she could spend a maximum of five years in the state penitentiary.

“What we’re doing is going out — and we have 85 convicted sex offenders in Lowndes County,” Cooper said. “Along with US marshals service, we’re going to do what’s called an address compliance check. Make sure that all 85 are where they’re supposed to be, and that the address they’ve reported are correct.”

Authorities say all offenders were in compliance with the exception of two individuals who have warrants out for their arrest in other states.
