LOWNDES COUNTY, Miss. (WCBI) -An $8,000.00 Fish and Wildlife grant used to build the New Hope softball field 20 years ago continues to cost Lowndes County.

Since being built, the field has turned into a showplace. But because of strings attached to the Federal grant, the field must remain open to community use anytime. That’s not happening. So after 20 years of write-ups from grant inspectors, the county and its school district are going to swap property so the school district owns the softball complex.

The county’s parks department will spend $8,000.00 on a new sports field or park nearby to satisfy the grant requirements.
