COLUMBUS, Miss. (WCBI) – Lowndes County supervisors say “no” to The Pony’s request to extend its hours.

The owners of the adult entertainment club on Highway 45 Alternate wanted to be able to remain open and serve food until 3:00 A.M..

The county’s current ordinance requires all nightclubs to close by 1:00 A.M., but will allow an exemption upon approval of the board.

Supervisors voted 3 to 2 Monday morning to reject the club’s request for the exemption.

“The point of the ordinance to start with…we just want the people that are at the nightclub that have been drinking; been served alcohol, they need to vacate the premises and go home.”

“His goal was to serve food to allow these patrons to sober up and ensure they didn’t go out there and cause someone or themselves harm. We are disappointed about the board’s decision. We were hoping we could move forward within the law and be allowed the exemption outlined in the ordinance. The board chose not to do that. Our next step is to head to court.”

Hosford says his client did not want to serve beer or alcohol after the 1am cut-off; only food.
