MABEN, Miss. (WCBI)-Maben’s fire chief has resigned. Justin Collins, fire chief for the last year and a half notified the city Tuesday (12-5) evening about his departure. WCBI spoke with Collins about his reasoning behind his resignation. He said it was based on personal decisions along with certain events that lead up to this moment. According to Collins a few other members of the volunteer fire department also submitted their resignation Tuesday (12-5) night. It will be up to the town of Maben to determine who will be the next fire chief. Kirk Rosenhan, the Oktibbeha county fire coordinator assured that fire safety will still be taken care of despite the resignations. The Maben Volunteer fire department is funded by Oktibbeha county but is managed by the town of Maben.

Statement issued by Justin Collins:

“I left the Maben Fire department because the community doesn’t support the fire department or what we do. We are there to help people and put out lives on the line when need. Maben has shown no appreciation towards any of us and for that reason I left the fire department.”
