MISSISSIPPI STATE UNIVERSITY, Miss. (WCBI) -Some Mississippi State music students got a master’s course in songwriting Thursday.

Award-winning singer/songwriter Mac McAnally gave the students some practical lessons on the craft and the music business. He also squeezed in a few stories.

In his almost 40 year career he has worked with popular artists from “Alabama” to the Zac Brown Band, and is a regular member of Jimmy Buffett’s Coral Reefer Band.

Although, he’s traveled the world with what he calls “the best day job I know of”, much of his inspiration comes from a little closer to home.

“Much of my work is Mississippi based. It’s a lot about being a small-town Mississippian, and I get to go all over the world and brag about that. I’m probably a walking one-man pamphlet for the state of Mississippi.”

McAnally kicked off Bulldog Bash festivities with a concert at Lee Hall on MSU’s campus..
