SMITHVILLE, Miss.(WCBI)–In Monroe County a group is still MADD about the fact of there being drugged and drunk drivers.

On the wall of the Smithville MADD office are pictures of victims who died prematurely because of the actions of some people who did not follow the golden rule….. think before you drink. All that one MADD leader and her helpers need now are more hands and feet to help with the organization’s mission.

“Especially up here with Sherrell the program coordinator she needs more volunteers to come and help and just answer phones and help do some paperwork,” said Laura Williams/MADD Volunteer-Advocate.

Whenever Clark thinks of the 2006 death of her daughter Tory Cox Plunkett pregnant with her unborn twin babies, that alone is her motivation encouraging motorists against driving while drunk. Clark’s small staff also seem passionate about their mission.

“In 2006 my husband at that time was on his way to work and he was killed by a drunk driver,” said Tracy Evans Hadley/MADD Advocate-Survivor.

Not only was her deceased husband Rodney Evans a victim, left to mourn were his four sons. Marty, was 14 when dad died, Jeremy then 15, Divante was 10, and Rodney Evans Jr. no longer alive, was 22 at the time. For workers at the state MADD office, the task of promoting awareness is ongoing. Recently Hadley was struck from behind by a drunk driver.

“I had injuries and he was about three minutes away from home and this was just last year. Lets you know how quick it could happen,” said Tracy Evans Hadley.

I have four children and I love them and so I donate all my free time to help save lives the best way I can and that’s to stop people from drinking and driving,” said Laura Williams.
