Video: Man Pleads Guilty in 2014 Tupelo Murder Case

TUPELO, Miss. (WCBI) – The family of Tupelo man has closure in his murder. Eugene Simmons was attempting to break up an altercation in May of 2014 when witnesses say he was shot multiple times.

Thursday,  19 year old Darryl Hamilton pleaded guilty to second degree murder. The St. Louis native received a 40 year sentence with a requirement of 20 years being served day for day.

Tupelo Police investigated the shooting in the North Green Street and Rogers Lane area.When they arrived officers found Simmons who had been shot multiple times. He was taken to the hospital where he later died.

Police arrested Hamilton a short time later.

District Attorney Trent Kelly says he is happy to see justice done for the family and the crime resolved in a timely fashion.
