STARKVILLE, Miss. (WCBI) -The new school year is starting off with a bang at Mississippi State, the bang of a hammer. University President Mark Keenum drove the first nail in the latest Maroon Edition Habitat for Humanity Home.

This is the seventh year for Mississippi State to partner with Habitat to build a home for a family in need.

For the construction team it’s about building more than a house.

“We felt like that Habitat gives hope to families who are struggling with paying rent, and not being able to get out of what housing for their families, and that we have here a place that can give them hope, and hand up that they can become contributing members in our community.”

This will be the 58th home built by the Starkville Chapter of Habitat for Humanity.
