COLUMBUS, Miss. – (WCBI) Two people are arrested, and a large amount of synthetic marijuana is off the streets of Columbus.

A patrol officer pulled over a vehicle Tuesday on Spruce Street for careless driving.

The stop turned into a search of the car. That is where they say they found 3 point 8 kilograms of K2 spice, nearly $8,000 in cash.
Spice has returned to headlines within the last month, after a recent spike in adverse reactions to the drug.

Chief Tony Carleton says the manufactured drug is known to cause adverse reactions in abusers.

“It is not designed for human consumption, so we never know what kind of effect it will have on you. It certainly could have different effects on you than it does me. We know in the Golden Triangle area, we’ve had some deaths that have occurred because of spice. I know in Jackson, MS, there has been. It is a concern of ours, and this is just a way we can track it,” says Chief Carleton.

23-year old Jeremy Bernold Winston and 25-year old Jasmine Shantrell Douglas both of columbus are both charged with trafficking more than a kilo of a controlled substance.

No bond has been set at this time.
