Video: MDOT Mulls Lowndes County Intersection Adjustment

LOWNDES COUNTY, Miss. (WCBI) — The Mississippi Department of Transportation has a plan to make a Lowndes County intersection safer.

Highway 45 Alternate and Tarlton Road has been the scene of 23 crashes, including one fatal accident, since 2009.

MDOT is proposing turning the intersection into a J-turn.

This means cars will not be able to turn left off Tarlton or cross over Highway 45 Alternate.

Drivers will have to take a right and turn around at a U-turn in a newly built median.

Construction usually takes about ten months but no timetable has been released.

Lowndes County Supervisor Jeff Smith represents this area and says he supports the plan.
