COLUMBUS, Miss. (WCBI) – A new vehicle that will help Columbus firefighters save time, and lives hit the streets Monday.

Med-One officially went into service. Six firefighters have been hired to man the emergency response vehicle.

Med-One will be used to respond to all non-life threatening emergencies, while freeing up other engines to handle more life threatening calls.
“The mayor and city council have given us this and we are expecting another vehicle in another year, so we are honored that they are supporting us like they are.”

“Even though it cost $42,000.00 it will save a lot of wear and tare on our other fire truck engines.”

The department plans to put another vehicle into service next year.
