Video: Middle School Girl Still Recovering from Burns in Artesia Fire

ARTESIA, Miss. (WCBI) – A middle school girl continues to recover, Sunday after being burned while escaping a fire that destroyed her Lowndes County home.

Lasandra Washington is recovering at a Jackson burn center, and is hoping to return to Columbus, Monday.

A fire destroyed her home on Thompson Road in Artesia late Friday night, and Lowndes County firefighters are still looking into what caused it.

Nothing in the home could be saved.

Now residents are stepping in to help the Washington family – collecting items like food, clothing and the essentials.
