WINSTON, Miss. (WCBI) — Minority county supervisors from across the state are in Winston County for an annual meeting today.

The Mississippi Association of Supervisors Minority Caucus is holding its education conference at Lake Tiak O’Khata.

The group heard legislative updates, presentations on budgeting, economic development and the Affordable Care Act.

One highlight will be tonight’s scholarship banquet to recognize high school seniors.

“We show the leadership by saying to a youngster, ‘This is what you can become from these scholarships. A leader in your community,'” MAS-MC Pike County Representative Tazwell Bowsky said.

“And it will benefit them in the long run during their time in high — in college,” Supervisor Gloria Turnipseed said.

The group will award 14 $1,000 scholarships. Former New Orleans Saint and Ole Miss Rebel Deuce McAllister is the guest speaker.
