COLUMBUS, Miss. (WCBI) – In two weeks, Mississippi voters will make a big decision on the future of education funding.

Those for and against “Initiative 42” have strong opinions on how you should vote. On Tuesday it was one of the topics Mississippi House Speaker Philip Gunn addressed at the Columbus Rotary Club meeting.

He calls is a dangerous measure because he says it completely eliminates the legislature from the process and takes the power away from the people

“I think people just need to look at the language, that’s what I’ve been telling folks, don’t listen to all the rederick and all of the propaganda or the advertisers, just take a look at the language and read it for yourself, and the first thing you’ll see is that the legislature is deleted from the process.”

Gunn also mentioned that introducing a bill to remove the state flag is not an issue that is before the legislature right now.
