MISSISSIPPI (WCBI) – It’ll soon be easier for Mississippi volunteer firefighters to see a doctor, thanks to a new health insurance program.

Teladoc, Inc. has been selected by the state to provide telehealth services for volunteer firefighters and their dependents.

Through the optional health plan, they’ll be able to access physicians by smart phone or online video.

State officials say it’ll make it easier for these emergency responders in rural areas, since they’ll no longer have to drive far to see a doctor.

Mississippi lawmakers approved the measure last year.
