Video: Mississippi’s Superintendent of Education Speaks out on Consolidation
TUPELO, MS (WCBI)-Mississippi’s superintendent of education is speaking out on a continuing move by some in the legislature to consolidate certain school districts. For the last three years, the Republican led Mississippi legislature has been moving to consolidate districts around the state and are again targeting more. Those favoring consolidation say it’s a last step to bring accountability and success to failing school districts. Mississippi Superintendent of Education Dr. Carey Wright says there are a lot of factors to consider when talking about consolidating school districts.
“I think there is some pieces that are really important with consolidation, one obviously is making sure the educational system is as sound as it can possibly be and two there are some economies of scale that can really be gained from consolidation.”
Recently, a A bill in the house to consolidate Holmes county and Durant was recently defeated 54-to-58 .
