SMITHVILLE, Miss. (WCBI) – Mississippi Governor Phil Bryant and First Lady Deborah Bryant got a rock star welcome today at Smithville Attendance Center. The Bryants were in the Monroe County town at the school devastated by that EF-5 tornado.

They came bearing gifts and its not even Christmas. But almost one point four million dollars is sure something to be thankful about. A symbolic check was issued to help fund the Smithville Attendance Center and it’s domed gym and safe room. In the case of severe weather 3,000 people can fit into the facility that can withstand winds of over 260 miles per hour. For the governor it was a time of reflection on just why he ran for office.

“Is I knew I could help so many people. We do the most good and today is a clear example of what we promised that we would help rebuild Smithville. And the fact that with the help of FEMA and our great people at MEMA, here in the state of Mississippi we are able to do that,” said Governor Bryant.

Receiving the almost one point four million dollar check sort of fired up those Seminoles for tonights game against Shaw.
