MONROE COUNTY, Miss. (WCBI) -Keeping senior citizens safe and healthy, that was the goal a special program hosted by the Monroe County Sheriff’s Department Tuesday. Through a partnership called “SALT”, an acronym for Seniors and Law Enforcement Together, the department hosted its first-ever Senior Day.

The event included free health care screenings and guest speakers discussing issues that effect the elderly in the area, including fraud prevention and elder abuse.

“We’re going to be talking about scams, talking about safety. We’re going to be talking about how you can prevent falling into a certain trap that they might try on you.”

“When you can get seniors together like this, you can give them a good idea of the things that go on in the way of scams, in the way of what is available in the county.”

The free event also featured music and food.
