CLAY COUNTY, Miss. (WCBI) — The state Election Commission rules a Golden Triangle lawyer’s name will remain on the November ballot in a local judge’s race.

Questions had been raised about whether Monique Montgomery actually lived in Clay County or Columbus. She qualified earlier this year to run against incumbent Judge Lee Coleman for Place 3 in the 16th Circuit Court District which covers Clay, Lowndes, Oktibbeha and Noxubee counties.

She and her husband Tony have lived in Columbus for several years. But earlier this year, they leased a house on Industrial Road in West Point and changed their voter registration to there.

The state Election Commission said that was enough to establish residency and left her name on the ballot.

Candidates for Place 3 must live in either Clay or Noxubee counties.

Coleman is seeking his second term. Candidates for judge don’t run by political party.
