WEST POINT, Miss.(WCBI)–A second professional golf course is coming to West Point and Clay County. A partnership between Old Waverly Golf Club and Mossy Oak is making it happen.

All that can be seen at a site just across from Old Waverly Golf Club in West Point is a rough looking field, but when completed, there will be the Mossy Oak Golf Club.

“Because most outdoors enthusiasts are golfers and most golfers are outdoor enthusiasts. We’ve got a great setting, we want the golf course to lay in the land naturally, and really emphasis that,” said Chris Jester/Director of Golf-Old Waverly Golf Club.

The destination type golf course is expected to rival any in the country. And Mossy Oak Golf Club will be open to the public.

“Its going to be 18 holes of golf. We’ll have full practice facilities. Club house and possibly some lodging,” said Chris Jester.

In the past Old Waverly Golf Course has captured national and international attention, now another one similar but different in it’s architectural design, should be an added attraction.

“We see people coming from all over the southeast and the country to visit West Point. And will be staying in our hotels, buying gas, in our restaurants. So it could be a big economic impact on the area,” said Chris Jester.

Enjoying golf at one of two sporting sites, the project is creating the ultimate in nature’s golf in it’s 180 acre natural habitat.

An April 1st groundbreaking is set for the new Mossy Oak Golf Club, the course should be open in the Fall of 2016.
